Description
The Central Lakes Trail is a scenic paved trail that runs through the lakes area of Minnesota. The trail offers riders a relatively flat, easy riding surface and beautiful views along the way. The trail follows the old Burlington Northern railroad bed, offering a glimpse into the history and beauty of rural Minnesota.
The section from Alexandria to Osakis passes through farms, pastures, and fields. In Osakis, the trail connects with the Lake Wobegon Trail, which continues as far as St. Joseph. From Alexandria to Fergus Falls, the trail is characterized by the lakes it passes by and by the open prairie, the crop fields, the dense deciduous forests, and the peaceful small towns it goes through.
The trail is beautiful no matter the season. Generally, we recommend heading northwest since the wind typically blows out of the west (this way you'll have the wind at your back coming home). However, check the weather before you go so you know what to expect.
