Description
The Levis Mound and Trow Mound recreational trail in Southern Clark County Wisconsin, has become one of the premere trail destinations in the Midwest. Well known for it's fantastic 25 miles of Mountain bike singletrack trails and home of an IMBA Epic Ride, Levis (pronounced Lev-is) offers riders a variety of terrain, from easy meandering wooded singletrack to technical pitches and outstanding views of the surrounding 133,000 acre county forest. Levis Mound has been the home of the Buzzard Buster Mountain bike race, 12 hour and 100 mile WEMS races, Pedro's Fest, Adventure and orienteering events. This trail system is also the home course for the Neillsville High School Cross Country Team.
The trail began over thirty years ago as a cross country ski trail and through the efforts of local volunteers and the forestry department, has grown to over 30 kilometers of expertly groomed trails for skating, striding and backcountry skiing. These same trails also offer snowshoers and hikers miles of trails to explore and breathtaking vistas. Facilities include a beautiful cross country ski chalet to warm visitors, running water and modern restrooms open year round. Trail users can also take advantage of numerous camping sites adjacent to the trailhead on Fisher Avenue.
The Levis and Trow Mound Trail is maintained by a small but active club-the Neillsville Area Trail Association and administered by the Clark County Forestry and Parks Department. Trail user fees support the trail and are required for cross country skiing, mountain biking and camping. Season passes are also available.
